:When you have gone down the West side of lake CONISTON not Windermere,
as he suggests turn left to Nibthwaite,where Ransome used to spend many
holidays as a child. Continue up the EAST side of the lake and you will
see Wild Cat Island. The only island on the lake. If it is only in part
Wild Cat Island, as it is suggested,it was a very special island for
Ransome in his childhood and youth.Along this road you get beautiful
views of the Old Man or Kanchenjunga. You then pass Lanehead, Ransome's
