Dear O. Glyndwr

As Commanding Officer of Captain Flint I apologise unreservedly for the miserable efforts of my gun crew. The mere fact that you are in a position to throw down a challenge of this type on the AR web site means that our powder must have been damp and our aim poor. By next September my crew’s gunnery skills will be honed to perfection and the Welsh flag will be in tatters. Furthermore, one of the gun’s crew was Welsh – does this mean civil war as well as war between TARS and Wales?!

The Old Gaffers Association organised a wonderful light-hearted weekend of sailing and activities at Derwentwater, and are a great group of people. I am now writing to the Welsh Assembly to seek a parley – that is, until September. Piece of eight, pieces of eight ……………

From the Commanding Officer and Crew of Captain Flint.

PS Roll on September 2001. Next time we won’t give any warnings to strike your colours! Elephants forever!
