I wonder if the housemaid was hired while the GA was at Beckfoot?After all, the GA would know how things should be done, and for Molly Blackett it was probably worth the extra cost rather than listening to a litany of extra complaints.
And in addition, although the GA lives independently, I wonder if she has an interest(financial) in Beckfoot - thus making everyone quail at her visits?
