The Amazons say when they first meet the Swallows (SA ch 10) that “it’s been our island for years and years”, but later Peggy says “Uncle Jim only gave us the ship last year. We only had a rowing boat before that”.

So they had less sailing experience than the Swallows, or at least John who had learnt sailing from his father on Lowestoft (?) Harbour. But they would be able to sail on the lake regularly, as unlike the Swallows they seem to go home every holiday.
