Dear Peter Roche and Dan,
‘That could be the one, its owned by Mr Pugh’ Well the little GULL boat we got was owned by a local Caernarfon girl called Anna. She also read ‘Swallows and Amazons’ when she was younger, and learnt to sail. We all have a lot to thank AR for!

As for unrinating in the lake, surely the same thing done around the edge of the lake ends up in the same place? The lake we sail in is called Padarn Lake, it is near to Llanberis in Snowdonia. We think there is a sewage discharge into the lake at the top end (east), as there is always a smell when you sail past the visitor centre. We have complained to the Gwynedd Council about it, pointing out that they charge visitors (and locals) £5.00 to sail on the lake, but don’t tell them its polluted. We would not do that to our visitors - would you?

But on the same subject, it seems that there are two things that AR seems to avoid ever mentioning in the books we have read so far.
Firstly life jackets. Did any AR characters ever were a jacket? We do, and were very glad of it when we capsized in the sea off Trefor last Saturday.
Secondly, it seems the children NEVER Pee or Poo. Neither do any of the drawings of the boats show any ‘heads’. Do these people have some secret we don’t know about? There does not seem to be any mention of digging a little hole on the island, or any other ‘normal’ functions. Just a gruelling bathe in cold water every morning. Our children certainly need to learn how to look after themselves when camping, and cause minimal environmental pollution.
John Nicholson.
