The crash seems to involve one of the posts marking the deep channel on Breydon Water. There are two ways to drown here, for none swimmers/ weak swimmers. One is to flounder into the dredged channel which is very deep, the other is to get stuck in the mud and for the tide to cover you (it was a rising tide). In my view the latter is unlikely as Titmouse should have soon floated off and could attempt a rescue. In the CC film I seem to remember that various of the crew claim not to be able to swim.
I also agree that there may have been childish hyperbole. There was also a fair chance of Margoletta slipping back into the deep channel and sinking. The tide is quite strong, I'd estimate 5 kt at full flood.
