The following from a scatter of files referring to Ransome's 1919 visit to Russia "Iunderstand that Ransome is working for our Secret Service but is not trusted", "Ransome obtained a visa quickly at the request of MI1c" (now MI6)and "Ransome was at that time in the pay of HMG as a Secret Service Agent". I can also show links as late as 1922 & 1924 with Secret Service officers and have a reference to him being (possibly) advanced money by Robert Bruce Lockhart in 1918 as an "unofficial" agent. Sorry note to quote chapter & verse but I'm thinking there ought to be an article in this somewhere if I can think where to place it.
