Peter, this warning is for your own good, you said something to the effect that to learn the meaning of "mousing your sisterhooks" would be to destroy its magic. This post strays dangerously close to that territory.
Bruce asked if the halyard was tied to the centre of the yard. My memory of Cochy is that it is attatched about two thirds of the way towards the peak; the highest point of the yard when rigged. In P.M. Scarab's halyard is joined to the yard by two interlocking hooks; the sisterhooks. To stop sisterly fallings out Nancy recommended tying them together like the Kilkenny cats. Why she should call this "mousing" I have no idea, except that mice have tails.
The boom and yard on Cochy are attatched to the sail by lacing. A rope is taken through an eye in the sail round the boom, pulled back on itself (like half a clove hitch) and then through the next eye. it looks very neat when prperly done (i.e. not by me).
