Ah, life in the tropics on the cusp of the wet season - too damned hot, too damned sticky, rain just teasing us at present...

Spent formative years of childhood in rural Scotland [three miles from Forfar, along the Arbroath Road] where it snowed real snow and froze real ice. I recall at least one winter when we crossed the frozen loch to go to church - I have no idea how big it really was, but memory makes it huge!. Also remember my brother coming home blue, shuddering with cold, his clothes frozen, barely managing to set one foot in front of the other - yes, he'd gone through the ice, I imagine where it was fairly shallow. Mother not home, father not home, responsible brother and anxious sisters bundling him up, thrusting him in front of the fire [not too close]. Didn't tell Mum or Dad... she found out about six months ago, one of those casual conversations between sisters, and I swear she turned pale!
