I agree that Ed Kiser's comments here could be worked into an interesting (a series of interesting) articles in MM. An exploration of AR's vocabulary comes to mind. Categories that could be explored include (1) Local dialect words that are not readily understood even in the rest of the UK; (2) 1930s phrases and references no longer familiar; (3) Briticisms little understood in other English-speaking areas and possibly (4) technical sailing vocabulary. Others will doubtless be able to think of other categories. I wish I had time to tackle at least part of it myself -- it would be a nice counterpart to the glossary of Lake District agricultural terms I had published 30 years ago!
