If they like ef knight and slocum I would suggest that you also look at Adlard Coles (one time owner of racundra as annette2) and AR's Racundra's First Cruise as for other authors of childrens books i searched long and hard being a dedicated reader going thru perhaps 3 or 4 books a week as child and often more as an adult and never found any to quite capture the genuine joy and respect for real kids. i am still looking jk rowling has some of the attitude as do some of ann mccaffery's but not the natural life and real could happen to me tomorrow feel. good luck i wait to hear more suggestions myself
