Yes, I'll have to admit defeat on this. The patch does appear to be
visible in "Under Jury Rig" (SD) and is perhaps discernible as an
extension of Nurse's hair in "The start of the voyage" (S&A). In
at least one chapter-end picture, something which I had taken to be
an imperfection of the reproduction could be the patch.

In none of these places is it anywhere near as clear as in the two PD
pictures. The picture at the end of chapter 17 of my hardback S&A seems
to show 3 things that could be patches: one where the PD patch is,
another one nearby and one adjacent to the mid-point of the yard!!!

It now seems curious to me - an "oddity" perhaps :-) - that the patch is
described in PD as "well-remembered" when is not mentioned in the text of
either S&A or SD.
