That's surely the biggest coincidence in the series. Not only is he in
Flushing, but he sees John on the Goblin from his ship as it is leaving.
He could easily have been travelling via a different port, or there at
a different time, or not looking over the rail, or looking on the other
side of the ship. Even at age 8 or so when I first read the book, I
felt a bit uneasy about the scale of this coincidence.
