No wonder the S&A's had problems in Flushing!!!
I noticed in Erskin Childers "The Riddle of the Sands" that Carruthers? had to bring out from England a new "oil stove" for the boat which was subsequently fitted some weeks later. I don't have the book with me at present but recall the name of the stove was something like a Rippingale. Was this likely to have been similar to the oil stoves mentioned in PD etc? In "The Riddle.." there is no mention of whether the stove used kerosene.
Bob Hollis' terminology is used in a similar way here in Thailand except we use Benzene or Petrol for gasoline.
