Kerosene, or "coal oil" as it is still known in some rural areas, is the major component, depending on additives, in fuel oil, diesel fuel, and jet aircraft fuel.

"White spirits" is simply pure refined gasoline with no additives. It's sold in gallon tins at exhorbitant prices as Coleman stove and lantern fuel.

Paraffin is the white wax used to seal jelly and jam jars and to make home-made candles.
