This is getting serious. In the UK, chemists sell "liquid paraffin" for the bowels, this is a clear liquid but does not seem or smell at all related to paraffin/kerosene. Hope I don't make a mistake when visiting Oz. Chemists call Methane, Ethane, Propane, Butane etc. the "paraffin series" so it looks like the use of "Paraffin" to describe a mixture of hydrocarbons derived from crude oil may only be accurate in so far as the liquid may be one or more of the paraffin series.
