Hello Titmouse,
"Garibaldi" is just a type of biscuit - "squashed fly" as you know. It can be made by any company, and McVitie's is one of the largest in UK.
Garibaldi was a successful Italian revolutionary in the 19th century, and caught the imagination of many people in other countries. I have always assumed the biscuit was named in his honour.
