Yes, Pirate Hitch would be a good name for it. And if Nancy had indeed used it, the worst that could have happened would have been one quiet splash, which one of Peggy's quacks would easily and instantly have covered.

There was a "favourite knots" thread on the WoodenBoat forum a while back, to which I contributed Highwayman's Hitch for a dinghy painter, not to slip quietly away with, but to show off with, because you can cast off from on board with such a lot of onlooker-impressing panache. I wish I'd thought of calling it a Pirate's Hitch then.
