Very many thanks for that information, Dave: I shall amend the notes to the song accordingly. Incidentally, I've got a vague idea (but am too lazy to check) that a Mary Sandys was the wife of the Conservative politician Duncan Sandys, and one of Churchill's daughters. Duncan's name was also pronounced 'Sands" rather than "Sandies".
