I am astonished to find that "Coooee" is an Australian word, but my Shorter Oxford Dictionary confirms this. It was regularly used as a signal in games like Hide and Seek when I was young, and my daughter confirms it was still used by her friends when she was at school.
This seems to be a traditional English usage, and none of us had any idea it was an imported word.
