Replying "better late than never"!:

1. Farm milk sales have virtually ceased. The 'green top' unpasteurised was killed off by the EEC. They ruled that whilst you can buy unpasteurised milk for your own consumption you cannot 'sell" it. Selling included supplying it with a cup of tea at the farmhouse door - or with cornflakes at your B & B. We had 'green top' here in the Hawkshead area until about 10 years ago.

2. You are right that there are very few small dairy herds here. But most farms raise beef cattle and these are seen on bottom land and some intakes.

3. Lake District is very strange just now with no access to footpaths and fells.
