Re the comment about 'forever and ever' versus 'I can't wait', we only ever saw the Swallows in holiday time - when, as was certainly for me as a child, they wanted the present situation to go on forever. Maybe in school time, they often spoke about not being able to wait for the holidays. Titty certainly mentions it in the train trip where Pigeon Post begins and its a key point at the beginning of Swallowdale - especially for John.
