I think Mike brings up an interesting point here. AR's use of forever is not entirely of the child's variety. A child wants something to last forever because it's great fun and the idea of heading back to school dismal by comparison. As adults, we are aware that things change in the grander scheme and it may not be the same when we return to a place. Certainly, as a child I had no thought that anything would happen to the places I loved or friends I had that would change my experiences, but I still didn’t want to wait until next year to have all this fun. We adults sometimes suffer from a nostalgia for the present since we know or feel that this good thing can't last. I can imagine that if AR was crafting an idyllic childhood, he would look back on it with an adult's eye as well as living it with a child's.
