Yes John, Tyvek can be used. The wonderful down-market, readership driven american magazine (yes!) Messing About in Boats contains many articles and leads to web sites on this topic. A good one is by contributor Jim Michalak but I recently lost all my bookmarks to these sites during computer heart surgery. Jim has several essays on lugsail designs using polytarp materials. There are also people who supply polytarp sail kits. E-mail me if you are still interested and I may be able to find some addresses on my other computer at work.
