Joy, can you give any specific examples of abridgement, citing by page? I did some spot checking in WDMTGTS last night, between the latest Cape and the Puffin editions, and couldn't see any difference. Nor did I find any mention of Evgenia wanting abridgement of texts, or of it being done, in her correspondence with Cape or Puffin Books. However, I haven't compared complete texts between the various editions, and may have missed something.

Good for Red Fox for putting _Swallows and Amazons_ into a larger format, but yes, Robert, their cover design leaves much to be desired! Thanks for adding it to your excellent web site.
