Nancy in PM immediately sees (though Peggy at first does not) that anything that they do which the GA takes umbrage at will affect her mother and uncle more than them. So she decides that they will behave “like angels” to protect her mother. The D’s go off to the Dog’s Home, and the jolly roger is taken down from the bedroom.

The GA has fallen out with the only (female) person of her class (Miss ... at Craig Gill) who is still around from when she lived there and brought the Turners up. In SD Mrs Jackson remembers her, and wants to spring clean Holly Howe when she hears that Miss Turner is coming to see (inspect) Mrs Walker!

Timothy, the doctor and the postman don’t really want to get involved in Nancy’s plans and deceptions, but are not too sympathetic with the GA. Of course the adults don’t want to lie to the GA. The Doctor is prepared to omit mentioning the D’s, but will if he is asked.

The children don’t lie either; in Scarab with the GA Dot is dreading whether they will be asked if they know the Walker children. In SA when Captain Flint thinks that John had set off the firework on the houseboat roof , he muses that he was a bad lad as a lad but he never lied.

PS: And at the end of PM the GA approves of the D's!
