I've just been (re)reading Christopher Milne's An Enchanted Place and in it he mentions eagerly listening for Anne Darlington's "Cooooo-eeeeeee" from the nursery as a signal she was on her way over. This was during the mid '20s.
Linking this in to another thread, above, his mother Dorothy was Aubrey de Selincourt's sister, while his father was, of course, A. A. Milne.
