There is indeed almost a standard "Teasel-type" Norfolk yacht which has evolved over the last 100 years to cope well with the peculiarities of the Broads. They all have lowerable masts to cope with the fixed road bridges (railway bridges are supposed to swing!) But, like the Thames rowing skiffs there some differences in the details depending on the boatbuilder: the exact shape of the hull; how high the gaff is peaked; windows or portholes; one or two cabins; ordinary or self-acting jib; even the position of the mast (a few inches can make a big difference to how the boat handles).

Does anyone know whether any of the actual yachts that Ransome hired on the Broads (the true models for "The Teasel") have survived.
