From memory; Isobelle Curwen was the wife of John Christian, a relative of Fletcher Christian of Bounty fame. John Christian purchased the estate on the west bank of Windermere, Claife Heights, sometime during the 19th century and proceeded to plant some 2,000,000 treees. The estate included the island we now know as Belle Isle where he built the first round house in Britain. Because Isobelle's surname was well established he added it to his name. The island was re-named in the mid 19th century, I believe.
