From Peter's description (AR drawings plus colour wash), the Japanese
illustrations sound similar to the covers of the Puffin edition (1969)
There should (I hope) now appear the cover of Pigeon Post
in the Puffin series to establish whether they are in fact the
same illustrations:
Notice that the Amazons are wearing red shirts as well as red caps!
