Round about San Francisco Bay a fine small sailing dinghy is
the San Francisco Pelican. About 13 feet long,
lug rigged with jib, very seaworthy in the the rough waters and
high winds of the bay. Normal crew is two. Many are made by their owners.
You can find how to get plans at the web site below.

Pelican races are held every Tuesday evening behind the breakwater
next to Pier 45 a marvelous place with sand beach, Pacific
Ocean, and Golden Gate Bridge in view. Drop in crew might
get a berth. End of Hyde Street Cable car line. While
you're there be sure to walk over to Pier 39 and see the
colony of 600 wild sea lions that have taken over the marina.
Constant action and barking.
