When I was about 17, I built a Heron which by the way is 11'3" overall. Too small for Swallow for sure but a lot of fun to sail with a friend or a younger sister for a weekend camping at The Basin (Coasters Retreat) on Pittwater.
Today I think the S's would have the 14' version of a Tideways dinghy. Safe, wooden or fibreglass, plenty of room and an explorers type of boat, not for racing but for pottering.
