Here's something for idle hands to keep busy with. As I was lazily
sipping tea and leafing through the sewing magazines I subscribe to,
I had an idea for a magnificent quilt: one that has a picture of every
boat (or ship or whatever) mentioned by name in the whole series. I came
up with 18 boats, and wondered if I missed any. The eighteen are:
Swallow, Amazon, The Houseboat (does it have a name?), Wildcat, Viper (yes,
the bad uns too), Arrow of Norwich, Goblin, Teasel, Death and Glory,
Margoletta, Titmouse, Come Along, Cachalot, Wizard, Firefly, Pterodactyl,
Sea Bear, Shining Moon.
A few moments after making this list, I received a sign from above
(or at least from the Postal Service) when I opened a mass-mailing
with coupons for local businesses and there on a menu from a Chinese
carry-out was a glorious drawing of a Chinese junk with a shining moon
overhead!
Which reminds me, I'll need to find pictures of all these boats, too.
Of course, the main ones will have illustrations in the books, but some
are described rather briefly.
