Certainly the similarities seem more than coincidental and the chronology - Lewis wrote LWW in 1945 - is about right. It is pretty well inconceivable that Lewis would have been unaware of Ransom's SA series, the books were certainly known to Tolkein. There is a brief exchange of correspondence between Ransome and Tolkein published in Signalling from Mars. The letters are full of mutual respect.
