You're right tars means companion (and fellow, partner, colleague).
The 'a' sounds like in 'far', the 'r' sounds (I mean you really hear
it like in the word 'rugby'), and (as usually in the Hungarian) 's'
stands for 'sh' like in 'ocean' or 'shoe' (and not for the English 's'
like in 'sea'). There is an acute (´) above the 'a' in the correct written
form of the word.
