Ransome tells us in GN? that the GND's scientific name is "Colymbus immer." However, The Audubon Society Field Guide to North American Birds reports that the Common Loon's scientific name is "Gavia immer / Loons (Gaviidae)", and that it is 28" to 36".
It looks like we need both a naturalist, and a Latin scholar. Where are the Dicks and Missee Lees?
