It is not unusual for biologists to shift around the Latin names for species as proof of an earlier description under a different name is established and accepted. In paleontology it is quite common. Hence the long-standing failed effort to get the public to learn say Apatosaurus instead of Brontosaurus as Stephen Jay Gould touched on in his book "Bully for Brontosaurus".
