Where do they come from?

The Amazons are, of course, Lakelanders, born and bred beside the Lake.
The D's are city dwellers: their father corrects examination papers, Dot remembers snow turning into dirty slush in the streets; Susan says that "people shouldn't be brought up in towns": Dick wants to go to the Natural History Museum to see a man about the Great Northern. So, it seems likely that the D's live in London or its surroundings.
But what about the Swallows? Again, Susan says that "people shouldn't be brought up in towns". So, we assume they are not town dwellers. When they arrive at the Lake, they have been on a long train journey. Is it possible that they sometimes live on navy bases, following their father round the country. But what happens when he goes abroad?
During term time, I assume they are at boarding school.
