While on the subject of obscure words in shanties, does anyone know what Bulgine is, or are?
THe word occurs in a song about the Old Wild Cat (!) of the Swallowtail (!) line -- "Clear away the track and let the bulgine run"
So what is it? Incidentally bulgine rhymes with ensign, not engine
