I suspect it's nothing to do with male/female. Nancy sent the message to Roger because he was the youngest and she wanted to make him feel important and part of things 'She's beginning something already'. It is typically Ransome, and also typically Nancy. We tend to forget how considerate a person she was (most of the time anyway).
