I agree that we can never know what was in Ransome's mind, unless some explicit note is found.

I merely state that if Nancy or the Great Aunt had wanted to write to both children in 1930's England, from my knowledge and understanding of the times (admittedly derived from my immediate family not from direct experience), she would have felt quite comfortable in putting both names on the label.
