Just think what it would do to the adventures if the pirates, explorers et al.had been dragged off the fells/island or where ever to attend church services including all the preparatory scrubbing up! In certain households at that time a hand of cards was the most exciting thing allowed on a Sunday. It would have been Picts & Martyrs each week as schemes were devised for bunking off or ditching the dreaded Sunday best! I remember sundays with horror as a child ... and that was in the so called swinging 60's! A.R. HAD to drop this weekly inconveniance to general rampaging around!
