A character who is 3D is one who is rounded, one who does all things, talks, thinks, observes, has humour, fears and in toto is seen as a whole.
2D characters are like paper cutouts and most of the characters are 2D, doing the one thing repeatedly. John worries about doing the right thing, Susan worries about the housekeeping, Roger is the comic and foil for the teaching by John, Peggy I like, but she is kept in the shade, Nancy is all " jibbooms and bobstays" Titty shows herself as the only all round (3D) character in the SA series.
