Well, I didn’t know about the start of Grouse shooting on the “Glorious Twelfth” of August, also having only shot smallbore on a range.

But AR doubtless saw the Grouse shooting as a way of getting Captain Flint and Mary’s woodman Jack to move the camp back to the island - a way of moving the plot along. And a final surprise for the S&A’s, rather than having the final event in the book just a routine camp shifting.

As in PM where I think that the GA’s letter turns up at Beckfoot the day after the telegram is received and replied to - which seems a remarkably fast service for a letter presumably posted the previous day in Harrogate. But having say even a day’s delay would have slowed the story down.

So again AR liked to keep the story moving - though overlooking some details.

PS: I thought Tony Blair wrote “toomorrow”
