I mentioned the "Glorious Twelfth" chronology problem somewhere online,
possibly three or four years ago; either on Tarboard, or in an email to
Bill Wright, or (more probably) both. It was one of a list of about
eight chronological problems. Although other explanations can be
devised, my best guess is that it is probably just a slip by AR.

Next-day letter delivery from Harrogate to the Lake District would not
have been very remarkable then. It could even happen now.

for the half dozen
other such problems in the booksIt is one of about six chronology problems that I know of in the books, most of which come up here from
time to time. My feeling about them is that or so Whilst there are other conceivable explanations I
think the most likely one, as with the five or so chronology problems
I can think of in the books don't know whether grouse shooters start on allsuspect that grouse shooters are always keen to start
on the exact 12th, but like Robert Dilley, I don't really know.
