Robert,

When I first saw "The Dam Busters", one of the R.A.F. officers had a dog
called "N*****". A couple of years ago I saw the movie again, and the
name of the dog had been replaced by a blank in the sound track.
"Here, (blank), here, (blank)." Sounded a little odd. My point is that
political correctness can be taken much too far. Colgate used to sell a
brand of toothpaste in Hong Kong called "Darkie Tooth Paste",
with a picture of a black? negro? African-American? wearing a top hat
and a big smile. I recently saw the same brand of tooth paste, but the
name had magically changed to "Darlie Tooth Paste." The smiling fellow
was now white. From what I understand, P.C. is far less onerous in the
U.K than it is in Canada, which in some areas, had gone completely loony.
One history professor in a nearby university risked the loss of his
tenure by innocently remarking in class one day, "The natives were
always considered low men on the totem pole." Fortunately, in that case,
sanity pevailed, and when the professor in question smote his forehead
in siumlated horror, the class burst into laughter.
