Mrs Felicia Hemans (1793-1835) was apparently the most widely read and published woman poet of the 19th century, but even “Casabianca” is hard to find now; I eventually found it in “Everyman’s Book of Evergreen Verse” (1981) edited by David Herbert. And towards the end of a 19th century edition “The Poetic Works of Mrs Felicia Hemans” (pub. Ward Lock).

It first appeared in the second edition of her “The Forest Sanctuary” in 1829; the Battle of the Nile was in 1798.

Byron, writing to Murray in 1820, referred to “your feminine He-man” and said “no more modern poesy - I pray - neither Mrs Hewoman’s - nor any female or male Tadpole of Poet Turdsworth’s - nor any of his ragamuffins”.
