The map is great!!! I hope it makes its way into a publication at some stage. How about a Ransome Atlas?
I always think the most useful map for that rather crowded are around Holly Howe, Dixon's Farm, Wild Cat Island, Holly Howe Bay, Houseboat Bay, Shark Bay and the observatory/tarn area is the 'Eskimo Settlements' map/picture in Winter Holiday. I think the location of the tarn is shown pretty clearly on there.
As for Tea Bay? I've forgotten its place (is that where Peggy was to hide with Amazon while Nancy captured Swallow?) - how about the bay where they land to go and visit the charcoal burners? This must be the next bay down from Shark Bay (just about where you've got Shark Bay written on the map) where, if I recall, there was a shingle beach with wood washed there and they built a fire to make tea?? I may be a mile off beam.

As for distances, there is a vague suggestion that Holly Howe is 1 mile south of Rio and the island is one more mile south of Holly Howe. However, as the end of 'Long Island' can be clearly seen out of Holly Howe Bay (and Rio is just around the headland after all) I've always imagined these to be 'child miles' and it's not really quite as far as that.

The other thing is that at first Wild Cat Island looks in the middle of the lake and only from the water do they realise that it's to one side, and it's further to swim from the lake to the shore than it is to swim around the island... But these are but small quibbles!!!

The island map itself is a good reproduction of AR's own map, so I don't think we can grumble, even though the landing place does seem to harbour-like (I think it's a romanticised anchorage on the map) and the whole island seems too big somehow.)

Gosh we're a sad lot!!! It's a great bit of work, well done!!!

Duncan
