I can agree with that Harry.
An aunt of mine had the one room Upper Waiwera school north of Auckland in the sixties and it had a twelve person shared line. Her ring was one short and two long. In addition she had the old type of phone where you had to stand on a stool(if you were a child) to talk into the receiver which was attached to the phone box hanging on the wall while you held the earpiece. Even had a handle on the side.
My parent's first phone was a black bakelite model with a brown fabric covered plaited cord, also in the sixties.
