Lower than a tapeworm - you betcha! The version published in today's paper and quoted on BBC Radio 4 claims that I told Mr Membery that "the revelations would come as a surprise to our members" - this is pure invention as despite Mr Membery's attempts to persuade me that this was all a huge surprise, I actually said quite the opposite - that rumours of the "Ransome as a spy" variety have been doing the rounds for years and thus an article of this nature would come as no surprise whatever to members - nor did I say any of the other things attributed to me in the version which appears on the website.
It was plainly obvious throughout our phone conversation on Thursday that Mr Membery knew nothing whatever about AR and had done his homework badly, if at all. And to think someone, somewhere has probably paid him for this rubbish.....
